The pizzas were very tasty indeed, but it was so busy, best to get there just after they open, or make a booking. This was an excellent way to see the native forest as the walkway is about 27 metres above the ground.
There is much more to see and do in the area, but since we only spent one night there, we will have to return in future to explore the rest! Great old buildings. Cinema looks fun. We upgraded from a postcard of a Weka that we got last time to a mounted photo version of the same pic this time. And I've got a lovely little bird pic that will sit on my desk when I return to work tomorrow.

We had never seen it so we were in total awe of the beauty of this place! More astonishing was they beautiful aqua coloured water, one of the most beautiful things we've ever seen Hokitika is a great place to visit if you are interested in nature, hiking and early NZ history. Lake Kaniere is gorgeous and there a couple of easy walks that are will worth the effort.
We visited the West Coast Tree Top walk - which I was impressed with the engineering is amazing and being able to view native trees and birds from above is amazing. We ate at Stumpers -cnr Weld and Revell Street, it was very busy but we still had great service and the food was satisfying. Great sunset vista from beach head. Hokitika Gorge is just unbelievable - what a beautiful blue colour, and taking a picnic in one of the very quiet picnic areas around Lake Kaniere Rose Creek was the highlight of a very beautiful days tour.
The bar in town has great local live music and great beer too! People were friendly and proud of their town. We walked from the motel into town, where there was plenty to see with glass blowing and craft and greenstone galleries. There is also an interesting display about the importance of whitebait to the West Coast historically and nowadays.
The beach is clean and pleasant for a walk. We wish we'd had time to go on some of the walks in surrounding places but will return to do so. The location. Loved the beach sea views and listening to the waves crashing at night. The room was nice a spacious and comfortable. The restaurant at the hotel was awesome. We enjoyed the food and I was very happy with the service they were willing to change some things due to some issues I have eating certain foods.
I really appreciated this as a lot of places are not so obliging. Great feed, great service and cooked to perfection. Also like having parking close on site. We loved Hokitika and we will be back!!
The staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to chat to us and give us ideas on how to spend our time at Hokitika and around. The kitchen was big and well resourced having plenty of work space and gas hobs! There was good shelving for our food and plenty of fridge space.

Bella Vista Motel Greymouth
Perfectly adequate little cabins with everything you need for a night or two. Great location with good proximity to the beach, cabins without beachfront view can still see the sea and have the added bonus of the animal farm which is great for kids. Very close to Hokitika town centre if you need to pop to the shops or check out the beach sign or click tower.
Was only a short drive to supermarket and beach.
