Then we got back onto the bus and resumed the trip to the City of Sails. We got back into Auckland around , so just in time for the evening meal at the hostel.

We traded vouchers - I gave him a free meal voucher that I had acquired, and in return, I got 4 free nights at a hostel in Queenstown - I came much better off in the deal, but Ed didn't mind; he wasn't going to use the voucher. Sweet as! After my one night in Auckland I was up bright and early again to catch the bus to Hahei on the Coromandel. I was met by the driver, Honey, and loaded my bags onto the huge bus, named Jugs.

I found it funny. We drove around Auckland picking up passengers before making our way to Mount Eden in Auckland. Mount Eden is a volcano, from which there are spectaular views of the Auckland scenery.

Apparently the volcano hasn't erupted in the last years, which isn't a long time as volcanoes go Honey told us about an April Fool's prank, where some school-kids gathared a load of tyres, got up very early in the morning, placed them into the crater of Mount Eden, and set them alight. By the time the city was waking up, there was a great deal of smoke, and people thought that Mount Eden was erupting! From there, we made our way towards the Coromandel peninsula and the township of Hahei.

The ride was a long one, but was made to fell short by Honey's stories and anecdotes. Plus, she has the same taste in music as I do, so the tunes were sweet as! We arrived in Hahei to find the sun shining, and a cool breeze blowing. So we did what we had to do - go to the beach!

It would have been rude not to! The golden sand was roasting hot underfoot, so jandals were a must. Unfortunately there were none, but I wasn't too disappointed. I carried on walking to the Cove, to find the beach was packed. I had a wander around, before dumping my things and going for a swim. I came back just in time for food to be served. The food was great, and probably the most filling meal I have had so far. This beach is no ordinary beach though, this was a hot water beach.

We got off the bus, and immediately felt the heat from the sand. Nothing new there, as most of the sand here is hot. What made this beach different, is that if you did just dig into the sand a little bit, you uncover pools of steaming hot water.

So, we dug a few trenches, and jumped in for a very unusual experience! We stayed at the beach for a couple of hours. Being on a beach at night, in the dark, in the moonlight, but in water that felt hot enough to boil noodles was one hell of an experience!! We left Hahei fairly early, and went West to Raglan. Raglan is a small beach town that is famous for two things; it's left hand breaks so surfing, then! We did the touristy thing and posed in front of the bottle. It was a good laugh! We continued the drive to Raglan, and I booked into our hostel, which was situated deep into a forest, and signed up to learn to surf.

It is something that had to be done! I had a bit of time before the lesson started though, so I had a few go's on the hostel's very own death slide through the trees. This place is cool!! The time came for our surf lesson. We were told that wetsuits would be provided, so we just needed to wear our togs underneath.
