Excellent and thought provoking walks starting from the car park near the stone house. Well sign posted and easy walks around some of the most historic areas of NZ. Interesting to long down on the Maori Pa and speculate on its fortifications and history. Hone Heke semis to have been no angel trading with the English to buy muskets to raid tribes to the south to take slaves to grow potatoes to trade to the English etc.

The Heritage bypass road has made a massive, positive difference to this area. There is a large amount of parking across the river from Kemp House and the Stone Store, as well as toilets and a large park in which to picnic. This Park is a place of great historical interest and there are plenty of things to see and do for all the family. But beware, there is a lot of walking involved from the carpark which pushed me to my ageing limit!
