I have only ever written positive reviews on places I have visited, but I feel that after my experience this morning at 11am at the Wooden Spoon that this review is required - despite being in contrast to the many decent reviews. My mum, my young son and I visited after hearing the Wooden Spoon was great for children please note: the kids play area is no longer available.
There were highchairs and toys for kids which was nice. The food we ordered was decent and service was prompt.
I stopped a passing member of the waitstaff to enquire whether I could please have my son's lunch heated - only to be met with a brusque and, frankly, rude response saying that she was "too busy serving" and was unable to do so as she brushed me off and backed away. I asked whether she could direct me to someone that could help - only for her to reiterate that she didn't have time, and walk away from me and into the kitchen.

A very kindly waitress must have seen this exchange and came over, informed me that this woman was the OWNER, took my son's food and heated it with no issue - offering me a kindly hand on the back and a "sorry" when she returned. Thank you to that lovely girl. My mother and I are very disappointed in the owners poor customer service and inadequate handling of the situation - I understand the kitchen must have been busy, perhaps they were understaffed - but all it would have taken was to tell me who could help me with my request if she herself was snowed under. Needless to stay we will not be visiting the Wooden Spoon again and will continue on our search for child-friendly cafes in the Nelson region.
I enjoy going here for coffee break or lunch.
