Gore is a charming place, and we had allowed insufficient time to appreciate it's charms. Good range of shops, daytime eating establishments and facilities. Of special mention is the museum and it's staff. The only negative point for us in our two night stay was the limited number of early evening eating opportunities, but that is a small negative compared to the bigger picture! Gore is a busy, vibrant and prosperous rural town.

Buildings are well-maintained and the streets clean and tidy. Good shopping with friendly retailers. Easy to find one's way around, and the town an excellent for driving around Southland. A most enjoyable visit. Lots of walks to explore. Gore is the gateway to the lakes and a lovely town to explore.
The Mataura river is beautiful and therapeutic and relaxing to watch. The Information Centre has all the information you need on what's happening in Gore and Southland. I just love how well maintained the town is - lovely hanging baskets of flowers cascading down outside the shops, centre gardens with super colourful, interesting flowers etc. If you want to experience genuine kiwi hospitality, home cooked food better ANZAC biscuits than my mum's and beautiful accommodation that is equal to any 5 star hotel I have stayed in then you will definitely find it here.
There truly is not anything quite like this in Gore and I will definitely be returning when I am next home visiting my family. Annette is an excellent host. Friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming and a lovely lady. Easy to talk and laugh with. George was an added extra bonus. Gore is a good little town and quite central to the rest of the South Island.
Definitely more than what people assume it to be. Peter and Susan are personable and gracious hosts, helpful too. The cottage is self contained, beautifully arranged and tastefully decorated in a rural setting. Spacious, clean, and comfortable with modern lighting and bathroom facilities and kitchen appliances. Hotel was in ok location, some of the units appeared to be refurished.
Everything was clean and functional. We stayed in a one bedroom with kitchette and it had everything u could possibly require, fresh foil in the oven and grill, shower caps and portable fan.
Extremely pleasant hosts made us very comfortable. Just outside of Gore, the view across the surrounding farmlands was lovely. Enjoyed meeting the 9 week old puppy in the morning. Delicious breakfast -both continental and cooked options provided. Meeting Dave the property manager, he was very enjoyable to talk to and provided some history to the property and the town of Gore.
Dave check on us a few times and had the continental breakfast ready on our request. Really well appointed and spacious. Very comfortable beds, good hot water , incredibly neat, and easy to find. I've stayed here a number of times, and it never fails to impress! Best in Gore! Well equipped, clean and comfortable no-frills 2-bedroom apartment perfect for a family. Close to everything in central Gore.
