Tokoroa facts
The Talking Poles that line the central shopping streets of Tokoroa are a must visit South Waikato attraction. More than 40 poles comprise the collection, with each reflecting the variety of cultures in the South Waikato region. The Pacific Memories and Professional Business Women Poles, the interestingly named Crazyman Pole - so called because of the grass growing out of his head - and The Pine Man which stands tall along the main highway through town are among the collection, which was developed as part of the retail upgrade Tokoroa has undergone in recent years.
Most of the poles are made from pine and other woods found in abundance around the region, which is renowned for its forestry heritage. The staff members at the award winning Over the Moon Dairy Company in Putaruru live and breathe cheese and they want to share the love with all visitors.

On the edge of Tokoroa, Cougar Mountain Bike Park offers 35km of off-road forest tracks with views over the surrounding area and is one of the popular mountain bike tracks Waikato is known for. The popular Tester is a grade five track comprising a steep climb, technical single trail and an elevated wooden bridge while families and beginners will enjoy 3 Blind Mice, with its variety of climbs, descents and fast-flowing sections.

Looks run down, I was dubious. Wall lights over the double bed had no bulbs. Someone in the past had talked them into getting non-refillable soap dispensers for the bathroom and shower, now long run out but still mounted. On the other hand, bed pretty comfy, numerous pillows, clean towels, warm. Shower a bit old-school in that you turn the hot all the way, then adjust the cold when it's heated up. Friendly staff that knew their local - breakfast wasn't available but they could recommend KK bakery 2 blocks over as being open early and "better value anyway" lol.
Clearly popular with the local road workers and other hard working crews, lots of vehicles loaded up and left before 6am. Did mean a bit of talking outside, ute engines etc. Handy to SH1, lots of food places and the local cinema. Date of stay: October Value.

Better than photos. Cheap price but good and nice place to stay. Quiet and comfortable, on the way to Tupou, motel is close to shopping centre, you can by walk to look around.
