A great experience. Seeing all the homes gardens and washing. So realistic. It was a though the residents were just away from thir homes for the day. The trip from Rotorua was worth it. Loved the location. Date of experience: October Genuine, absolute gem. Thought this might feel plastic, but it's as genuine an experience as we've ever had on a movie set tour. It would only have been more delightful if there had been hobbits working on the grounds.

Definitely worth the drive, and will definitely book in for an evening experience sometime later - day time was fantastic, but I bet night time is magical. Really cool experience. The whole experiences transports you to one of the most vibrant places of Middle Earth and, partnered with the expert guides, walked you through the stories and process of filmmaking that brought this place to life. Well worth the money and certainly and experience you should go on. Through jumping in and out of the main group and hearing our guide talk about the development of Hobbiton, there were a lot of interesting facts and stories you get to learn about.
Some are full human sized and others are much smaller. Turns out they had to create these different scales for filming when they needed to create perspective between Gandalf, dwarves, and hobbits. The tour continues spiralling upwards until you end up on Bagshot Row.

Feeling a little but rushed at this point, it was nice to be able to get down to the Green Dragon inn and pub. As touristy as it all was, I have to say that alongside Black Water Rafting , visiting Hobbiton was definitely one of the main highlights of our 3 week trip to New Zealand. It was a completely immersive experience in that you could see the whole Hobbiton movie set come to life.
