For a small town this park is special, different and, for a town, very big. My wife and I just happened to stop overnight in Hawera on our drive back from Wellington to Auckland.
How lucky we were!
Our motel was just across from this park. It is divided by very neatly tended long hedges, play equipment and other shrubbery into many separate areas, so that we wandered along, seeing one interesting area after another.

My strong advice to Kiwis, like us, and tourists is visit the garden, probably, but also you must visit the Tawhiri Museum in the same town - just Amazing! This has long been a well loved garden and park for locals and visitors. A great playground- the wooden pirate ship is brilliant to imagine adventures on and the water wheel is fun to play with on a hot day.
