So I booked a bike for Friday to pick up at 10am when they opened. I was a bit late due to traffic but my bike was waiting for me. The distance from the bike shed to the lighthouse is roughly 5 kms away. I also had a jacket and a change of pants in case the weather turned bad.

The trial along the coast is pretty easy and very relaxing but it is on gravel which makes cycling a little difficult. Heck of a good workout for your legs though. It took me about 30 odd mins to get out to the lighthouse. I was joined by a brunch of school kids on a field trip. I carried on for a few more minutes to see one of the lakes. I took my time on the way back to chill out and enjoy the coast view.

Overall it's a good way to enjoy a nice day over a couple of hours and get some exercise. So incredibly awesome - what an amazing spot in NZ. Highly recommend this trip to overseas visitors and locals as well.

This is an easy walk along a flat, wide, dirt road. It winds along the water out to the lighthouse. Towards the end you can choose to go up the hill to the lighthouse on top of the hill or stay on the road to see the lighthouse at sea level. As all things in Wellington, it can be windy, but not so much that you should stay home.

It's a beautiful walk and a great way to spend part of a day. Round trip walk, a stop for a sandwich at the lighthouse, and lots of pictures along the way took us slightly less than 4 hours.
