Its a lovely town at the entry to the peninsula.

We did a day trip to Coromandel; beautiful driving around the coast. However overseas drivers need to be alert to the one-way bridges and warning road signage when approaching same. We were used to them but nearly had a head-on crash with a driver who swept around a corner and onto the bridge thinking it was two-way - so care is needed. Thames Saturday market is worthwhile and the historic walkway by the sea.

Great base to explore the Coromandel Peninsula Charming colonial houses and a heritage tour to see them Laid back, easy going vibe Interesting high street with well preserved facades and buildings dating back to Victorian times Plenty of interesting places to eat by day, check closing times though!

Plenty of places to visit from Thames. The town itself is interesting with good museums for the wet days and a great street market mid-week. During the day there are plenty of cafes and restaurants but fewer choices in the evening. Good rail trail for safe cycling, plenty of good walks nearby. A great place to base yourself for a week or so. We stayed in Thames after hiking the Pinnacles. Thames is a very small township but you can drive along the coast and check out other shops and on Saturday the shops on the main road are all open not really on Sunday's.

Enjoyed our stay very much. Conveniently situated for the purpose of our stay and a great drive to Coromandel. It is a beautiful location surrounded by trees. A little oasis away from the hustle butt too far. Our room looked onto the pool, very nice. Unfortunately we had only booked one night and could not enjoy the surroundings as much as we would of liked. Our host's were tremendous and by the time we left we felt we had known them for years. If we return to New Zealand we would certainly stay for longer.

Great location with fabulous views! The hosts were wonderful and the furnishings beautiful. The suite we had was on par with a luxury hotel. Also the kitchenette and sitting area was well stocked. They have thought of everything to make your stay so comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! Have you stayed at Motel 6, or Super 8? Basically the same, but with a small kitchen and more clean. Decently clean for my standards, which are moderately high. Bed sheets and towel very clean. Gave us free milk and cookies! Just kidding, pretty sure the last guests forgot them in the fridge. We had a lovely stay - the hosts are so lovely!

Breakfast was great and we got to try New Zealand honey and marmite. Kelsie also stored our bags for us while we went for our hike, and gave us chocolate biscuits on our return! Definitely recommend staying here. And a large comfy bed. The cute little back porch with table and chairs was perfect for enjoying a meal and listening to the birds and the nearby stream.

The owners were very hospitable and friendly. Very clean throughout the hotel and Comfortable beds. Beautiful historic hotel with a nice blend of modern touches and feels fresh. Great location! Beautiful garden, nice two storage cottage. Own terrace with a terrific view over the coastline. Beachfront position. All new interior decor. Convenience to Thanes and Coast. Cute motel with charming chalet-style rooms. Very comfortable bed. Pleasant location on the Pohotokawa coast near Thames. I love their friendly dogs playing around with kids.
